CARE PLUS TICK REMOVER
A tick is a spider-like arthropod parasite that feeds on the blood of animals and humans. When sucking blood, ticks can transmit viruses, bacteria, parasites and even venom. The best-known and most dangerous bacterium a tick can carry is the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease. That disease can eventually lead to serious health problems. A red ring-shaped spot (erythema migrans) at the bite site is one of the first symptoms of Lyme disease.
Ticks live in grass, bushes, heather and low vegetation. Have you been out in nature? Check yourself for tick bites! Remove the tick within eight hours to minimise the risk of infection. Do not anaesthetise the tick with alcohol or other narcotics. Do not heat the tick, even with a cigarette. Because if you stun or heat a tick, it goes into shock and, in response, spits out its contents, including any pathogens such as Borrelia bacteria. Using good tick forceps will prevent the tick from doing this. Afterwards, disinfect the wound with alcohol. Note down in your diary the date of the tick bite, the bite spot on your body and the area where you got the tick bite.
If the tick has been on your body for more than eight hours, it may already be full. But even when the tick has been properly removed, there is still a chance of infection. Keep a close eye on the bite spot. Does a red ring appear around the bite spot, or do you feel unwell? If so, contact your GP immediately.
